Concerto No.1 in E Flat Major was composed over a 26 year period. The main themes were written in 1830 at the age of 19 and were competed in 1849 but were changed numerous times between 1849 and the final version in 1856. It was first performed in 1855 at Weimar with Hector Berlioz conducting. His second concerto in a Major was composed starting in 1839 and was finished nearly 22 years later in 1861. This concerto is one long movement divided into six sections lasting over 18 minutes.
