LYRICS '50 Times a Mile' Coming thru the gardens, trying to stay off the roses thorns, that line the trails in places we've never been before. Could be a million people all around. They can only guess at what we've found. With your hand in mine, & your wide eyed smile, bringing me warmth 50 times a mile. Coming thru the gardens Making our way - If I stumble in the weeds, I know you won't let go of me. You know I am true for you. That's just who we are, and we've come so far. Have so far to go. Coming thru the gardens, while your wide eyed smile, giving me warmth 50 times a mile. -50 times a mile. 'Coming to Grips' I'm always coming to grips, that sometimes I can't make it home. But you know, I got to deal with it. Laugh when I can, cry when I have to. Sure could use a bit of a rainbow again. Cold winter days, hot summer nights, they're all the same. It can be so bittersweet, with life on edge, going around another bend. I'm coming to grips, that sometimes I can't make it home. But I got to deal with it. Laugh when I can, cry when I have to. It can be so bittersweet with life on the edge. Going and coming around another bend. 'Entity' She's a cruel heartless entity who feels nothing all the time. Who hurts others just for fun, got a mouth like a greasy gun. Pretending to be one of God's own. All she's doing is looking for somebody to prey on. Put the words on loan from hell. There's no forgiveness, there's no shame. She's done nothing wrong, so there's no blame. Just a cruel heartless entity, with a shadow for a soul. She'll have lots of time to pay off that hell bound loan. Hear her pray for lost souls, and a blessing of my own. Little does she know her words never made it past her nose. She's done nothing wrong, so there's no blame, there's no shame. Just a cruel heartless entity. Cruel, heartless, soulless, entity 'Glimmer' I find myself Pushing it all in front of me. And looking back, everything is pulling me. Trying to feel, trying not to fall. Hoping for that, glimmer, of love, that's all. Something that will last, that's all. Looks like I'm shivering all over. Like laying down in cold green clover. Trying to feel, trying not to fall. Looking for a glimmer, of love. That's all. 'I Pray in Colours' I pray, yes I pray, mostly in colours. Not in words. Don't have to worry about being heard. Colours just come leaping out of me. And I hope like I pray, hoping from heart for a better day. For another better day. I hold my prayer like I hold my dreams. Out in the open, like the wind coming in from the sea. I can feel the colours changing all over me. One day that's all that will be left of me. Prayers of hope of colours, that flew like a flag of love, that I once held up for free. I held up for free. Pray in colours mostly now. Don't have to worry about being heard. And I hope like I pray. Hoping from my heart for a better day, for another better day. 'Love is Going Away' Love is going away. Don't mean fading from view. It's already turned the corner. Jumped over these dog on blues. Left me alone with this song. Something about old foolish one. Something about her hips - - way they move in the sun. Love is going away. Didn't get turned down today. Didn't even get her name. All I know is g'love is going away. Get myself back into gear. I'm blasting thru these years. Squeezing thru the nights and days. One more chance of love down the drain. A crowd of good-byes are wishing me well. Just one love going away. One love going away. Get myself back into gear. I'm blasting thru these years. Something about old foolish one. Something about her hips, the way they move in the sun. Love is going away. Don't mean fading from view. She's already turned the corner. And I've jumped over these dog on blues. Love is going away. Just one love going away. 'Most of All' I miss you most of all, when the air flashes lightning and thunder guns across the sky. I miss you most of all, when the wind drives the rain cold, and the wild geese come down from the north. I miss you most of all, when I close my eyes, and draw a deep breath inside. I miss you most of all, when my temper rises, and I have to leap to hold my peace. I miss you most of all, when my heart beats like a drum, when I'm sad and when I'm having fun. That's when I miss you most of all. I miss you most of all, when I turn and want to say, thank you for all you've done for me today. I miss you most of all. When night turns into day, I miss you most of all. 'Once Forever' Just once - forever or maybe til the 12th of never. That's how long love lasts. Past the tears, past the joy. Thru the moments of time. Time after time after time. Just once - forever. That's how long love lasts. Past the tears, past the joy. Thru the moments of time. Time after time, just all at once. Just all at once - forever. 'Trying to do my Best' I hope I can get to sleep, even if I can't get back to you. Sometimes life is like this train, howling down the tracks in the cold winter rain. I'm close to the middle of the edge of everywhere I've never been. I have memories, where love was clearly felt and seen. Oh I hope that I can get to sleep and that you will be in my dreams. I'm just trying to do my best, not trying to past some test. I'm trying to be true & do my best for the love in you. Sometimes life is like this train, Howling down the tracks in the cold winter rain. I'm close to the edge of the middle of everywhere, I've never been. It will be so nice, to see love breaking free. Breaking free over you & me. 'You Make the Difference' You make the difference, inside of me. Your love of life The love that's free and all the things I see in my heart there will always be, that one place, where I will always be. You make the difference, inside of me. The music on Heartbeat Blues & Love Songs is actually three sets of 4 songs each. The first set, includes '50 Times a Mile', that I think would have been great to hear Perry Como sing on one of his European tours in Ireland or Italy. I played it with a stratacaster with Texas Special Pickups, slide with a Rickenbacker 12 string, and a Roland Moog Synthesizer. The second song, 'Coming to Grips', I would love to hear someone do this song, with a nice tight band (orchestra) doing the layered sound that I added to this melody. I admit that I am more of a songwriter than a scheduled tour artist. I don't think my voice sounds like anyone that I have ever heard on a recording, even though I was asked to write down a singer that I thought that I sounded like, so I put down Marty Robbins, as the closest I could think of at the time. The third song, 'Entity', for some reason reminds me of a George Harrison style of song, for the tender slide guitar & the social commentary. It is a different kind of blues song that laments the non-soul status of a woman who's treachery knows no bounds. The fourth song, 'Glimmer', is the first take of a similar song, Glimmer of Love, from my first album, Pieces for Love. I used a 12 string Rickenbacker to make it a blues song. It reminds me of one of the last songs Johnny Cash did, at the piano, when he played a Nine Inch Nails song. The second set has,' I Pray in Colours', which I am sure I am influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan and John Lennon. It's somewhat autobiographical, but I think it applies to a lot of people in the world today that are at the end of a day, and the beginning of another day, just asking for a better day to come their way. I did not hold back my slide guitar work on this one. It is my second voice on this recording. The second song, 'Love is going Away', was played in one take, on my Gibson J-45 Les Paul tribute acoustic guitar. The guitar was stolen shortly after I did the one take, and I wanted you to hear that wonderful sound machine, that is no longer with me. The third song, 'Most of All', is a blues crooner's song. I used a double voice track, and I believe it applies to nearly everyone in this world at some time in their life, when circumstances and time, mean that a close friend is not there anymore. The fourth song, 'Once Forever', was done as Blues Rocker song. It's a bit on the dark side of melody, and I put a fuzz wah-wah on one guitar, which is rare for me. For me it conjures up the songs I grew up with listening to Cream Disraeli Gears and Jim Hendrix Are You Experienced. The last set has 'Ricordo Rhapsody'. Ricordo, in Italian, is about memories that are personal. I used my 63 Hofner archtop guitar for the slide and the main guitar. My mind waundered and meandered 'ricordo' about friends and other times & things while I played it. I recorded it some time ago and only mastered it a little while ago. The second song, 'See You in the Morning, Instru'. is a loose interpretation of another song on my first album, 'I'll See You in the Morning', with two guitars, my epiphone red 335 Dot guitar and the 12 string Rickenbacker guitar. The story of the song, is about two lovers, and they are saying good night to each other, and one says to the other, I'll see you in the morning. I got the phrase from my father. He was a preacher, and told the story of one of his fondest memories was hearing his mother say to all 11 children in the house, I'll see you in the morning. He told that story the Sunday after her death, in 1964. ^#^while he was preaching in this old bare church on the edge of the poor side of town. It was a very emotional story as he told it. He finished by saying, 'This is first Sunday that I do not have my mother to visit, and that means something to me'. He almost broke down as his heart sagged under the grief and sadness. He fought back the tears and said 'Some day, I will see my mother again, on some shining morning on the other side'. I just translated the love from mother to her children to a loving couple turning in for the night. To me, love is love, always coming from the same place. The only difference is, in how love manifests itself through the interactions of the loved and loving ones. The next to the last song, 'Trying to do my Best', is a country blues style song. Most country songs now, have an upbeat. This one doesn't. It's more like from the Marty Robbins, Elvis Presley, Earnest Tubbs era of country music. The last song, 'You Make the Difference', is a guitar duet with the 12 string Rickenbacker and my Alvarez Englemann spruce top, rosewood acoustic guitar. I picked the song with only 1 verse. I meant to go back in and do two more verses, but when I listened to it, I thought, the song says just what I wanted it to say, and it is complete. Hope your day is another better day. Sincerely, Frankie Van Creef.
