Gnarly at Marly's
The Frank Trompeter Quartet plays jazz, and re-casts jazz standards using contemporary styles like funk and reggae. These unique arrangements can be enjoyed on their first CD 'Gnarly at Marly's.' Recorded at weekly Jazz & Etc. Happy Hours at Marly's Pub, Springfield, Illinois' top live music venue, the CD captures the excitement of the quartet's sound with live performances that include the farewell show of Quartet bassist John Peterson, who died unexpectedly in late 2009. The CD is dedicated to John Peterson. Trompeter arranged the re-workings of Body & Soul as funk, I've Got You Under My Skin as Reggae with a Ska B Section, and re-harmonized On a Clear Day as a Ska arrangement. My Convertible Cadillac, by Bobby Troupe, is a fun blues cover of St. Louis MO supper club show band The Treniers. St. Thomas features special guest Doug Burns on trombone. Trompeter sings and plays tenor, alto and soprano saxophones; Chris Miller on piano and organ; John Peterson on bass, and Dion Doss on drums.
