Product notities

The 16 member Fatum Brothers' Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2008 and features the United States' next generation of jazz lions. All the members of the band currently study a jazz majors in Colleges and Universities across the country. These schools include New York University, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, Northwestern, University of Michigan, University of Illinois, Cal State Northridge, Temple, DePaul University, Indiana Jacobs School of Music, and more! After a series of performance successes, the band teamed up with Monterey Jazz Festival recognized and Downbeat Award winning composer Levi Saelua to create an album of nine brand new and original jazz big band compositions. After tireless efforts of Levi's part, and a weekend recording session in Evanston, Illinois, the band walked away with their first album 'Here to Stay!' Columnist Edward Ortiz of the Sacramento Bee has noted that 'Wherever his (Levi's) music is heard, it seems a spark of enthusiasm is ignited among musicians,' and '(Levi)'s work revealed a solid grasp of orchestration and a deft hand at using rhythms to make a musical point.' Highlights among Levi's imaginative and incredible compositions include the four movement suite '...and the Duke Called him Swee' Pea,' which is an homage to the great composer Billy Strayhorn. As well as the incredible soloing of Rajiv Halim Orozco, Reuben Allen, Sam Crittenden, Kenan Serenbetz, and band leaders Michael & John Fatum. The album was released on July 30th with a sold out CD Release party at the Skokie Theatre, and then a subsequent 3 week long tour from San Diego up the California coast to San Jose International Jazz Festival, and a final sold out homecoming performance at Chicago's landmark jazz club, the Jazz Showcase! Highlights of the tour included a sold out performance at the 24th street theatre in Sacramento, a standing ovation at the San Jose Jazz Festival, and a performance at Catalina's Jazz Club in Los Angeles with grammy award winner Bob Mintzer! As the first record release of the increasingly popular and nationally recognized Fatum Brothers' Jazz Orchestra, 'Here to Stay!' screams just that. The album is a symbol of only the beginning of what will become of the FBJO!
