Starts with Me
These songs were mostly written over the course of the past few years and played by our band which has consisted of Melissa Brock lead vocals, Tom Brock guitar/vocals, Tim Kirkland bass guitar/vocals and various drummers. On this album Tom played all the guitar parts and Tim played all the bass guitar . Melissa sang lead vocals on all songs with Tom singing also on Shout for Joy. Tom, Tim and Caitlin Brock sang backing vocals. Tempa Bader sat in on organ and piano on a few songs and Carten Warden on harmonica. Engineer Richard Porter jumped in on Jesus, Jesus on organ also. The title track Startswith Me is a song about how we need to let God work in us by studying His word and submitting to His Lordship and our whole world will change from the inside out. Jesus Jesus is an upbeat praise tune we have been playing for years and exudes joy in Lord in our kind of Texas roots style. Come Gather 'Round entertains the idea of how we maybe join in another realm while worshipping God. And how God our father long's to gather us in "under His wing" loving us. Song they sing in Heaven is about the joy in heaven when one of us on earth is born again. Also glory to the Lamb of God, and the power of the cross, worthy is Jesus who was slain...amen One Thing was inspired from the scriptures that actually start with the words "one thing". If our walk in the Lord becomes complicated the one thing scriptures get back to basics. Shout for Joy was written by request for a women's meeting we were helping with. Truly inspired though it brought home to us the fact that when you consider God's plan for us, love, eternal life, redemption, you gotta shout for joy one time. Under the Cover of Love is about answering the call on your life to God's love. Take my Heart is that heart cry when you no longer want yours, but God's will for your life. Have Mercy on Me is a cheeky song about those times when everything seems out of balance and you can't seem to think straight and the only thing you can do is drop to your knees and cry out "God have mercy on me". Guess what? He hear's our cry. Jesus is Calling is a song from years back that we use as an "invitation" song. One of my favorites. The guitar part is my go to riff when I pick up an accoustic guitar. To You lyrics were written by Melissa and came about during a prayer time.
