We Need You Lord
'What You Now Know About Helen' At the tender age of eleven, Helen had a keen interest in music. She had the opportunity to take lessons on either a band instrument or strings. The lessons on strings did not include the guitar so she opted to play clarinet. Within a couple of months, she gave up the clarinet for the flute. Helen took lessons on the flute for two years. Because she did not own a flute, after her lessons ended, she didn't play flute again. Helen's appetite for music grew, so she took up the guitar during hot Summer days. Long story short, her sister, Rosemary, gave Helen her first guitar and her sister, Diane, taught her a few notes. From this early beginning, she continued to have a love for the guitar and taught herself to play. At age thirteen, desiring to widen her experience in music, Helen spent almost two years on the piano. She quit for awhile, then resumed her lessons for another year. Her piano teacher moved back to Germany and she never took another lesson. As a Sophmore in High School, choir became Helen's interest: Beginning Choir, Intermediate Choir, Advanced Choir. Helen enjoyed her time in choir singing in groups and participating in concerts, District Clinic, All-State, and the International Festival of Music. Her Senior year was packed daily with voice lessons, piano lessons, group practice, and of course, playing guitar and singing at Sunday morning Church service. Music, music, music...It's been a major love in her life. At the age of sixteen, Helen was introduced to Jesus Christ. She accepted Jesus as Lord at age twenty-three. Now, music played a major role in expressing her relationship with Jesus. Two years after coming into a personal relationship with Jesus as her Lord, Helen began writing songs. As she wrote what was on her heart, she heard the melody and put the music to the words with her twelve-string guitar. To date, she has written one hundred eighty-six songs that express her love for her Lord. Helen received much encouragement about her music from her family, especially Marie, her younger sister. Helen is #6 in a family of eleven siblings. She has received much encouragement from Christians, and continues to sing and play with every opportunity given. Don says,'When I married Helen, I was privileged to hear her music and song. Her music and words needs to be shared with everyone. Her music, her spirit, her determined attitude has been an inspiration to me as her husband. May this CD bless you and encourage us all in our repentance to God in these trying times in which we live.' 'What You Now Know About Don' At age eleven, Don saw the bass violin on the platform of the church that he and his family attended. He heard these words in his heart, 'You're going to play that bass.' He knew the sound that was needed, and began to teach himself to play. At the age of twelve, Don met Jesus as his Lord of all! He attributes his seeking the Lord to the influence of his praying mother and his close first cousin, Renford. 'It's Renford's fault! He prayed the hounds of heaven on me!' says Don of his cousin, one year his Senior. When Don was thirteen years old, he bought a used bass guitar. He learned to play without any lessons. Don and Renford played their guitars together as teenagers. Renford played a twelve string guitar and Don backed Renford up with his bass. It wasn't long before they both expanded their repertoire to twin alto saxophones. They squeaked and squawked as they learned to play. They made the pianist mad at church. Eventually, they both learned to play. After High School, Don attended Bible College. There Don developed his ability to sing. After Bible College, Don sang solos in church and has been singing ever since. Recently, Don transitioned from alto sax to soprano sax. He learned to play the soprano sax just as well as he could play the alto sax. Music has always been a major part of his ministry. Don has continued to play sax, bass guitar, and sing on the worship team at Community Church. He has taken the opportunity to play in different places and churches as well. Helen says...'I am truly blessed to be Don's wife! He has blessed me with his heart of worship to Jesus through singing songs, playing his sax, bass guitar, and the wonderful words he speaks! May this CD bless you as it has me.'
