More than being a defined group or a traditional duo, e.Lance is, above all, a concept which has developed out of the musical imagination of Phil Penot. Phil started his career as a guitarist and songwriter during the Cold Wave period at the end of the 80's, and he most recently broadened his range to create and produce his new album : Runaway Trains. From the early days until now, many artists have been part of the concept, e.Lance. Runaway Trains is the result of an unlikely meeting between Phil Penot and the vocalist, Claire Naylor. Phil, who travels between Paris and California and Claire, born in Scotland, who lives not far from Liverpool, would never have met if it hadn't been for a mutual friend. Intuition proved right, and, from the first recording session, the collaboration gelled. With the combination of Claire's voice and Phil's music, other like-minded musicians joined, including Christophe Deschamps, who plays drums on the album, and singer, Madeleine Barchevska, who adds her seasoned voice to Phil's, The Only Way. 'I love singing Phil's poetic lyrics,' she says. Runaway Trains is an invitation to travel the long-way-round, from Sitting In A Saddle Bar, to Stay Home, the arrangements are built on Phil's solid guitar foundations polished with the delicacy of a devoted expert. Claire and Phil's voices seperately, or together, open the door to a musical universe; completely new, yet strangely familiar.
