Duchess of Hamilton
In 1938, with Great Britain on the brink of war with Nazi Germany, the Duchess of Hamilton, a streamlined 'Coronation Pacific' entered service. She would cover over 1+ million miles during her 26 year working life, before being removed from service in 1964. In 1990 however, the Duchess returned, fully restored, to the main line. This program records every phase of her five year restoration by the Friends of the Nation Railway Museum. Helicopters capture the magnificent sight of the grand old lady hauling a long train towards the Settle and Carlisle line.
