Brother of the Moon
Dreaming Elephants is a unique band which brings the didgeridoo, the ancient Australian Aboriginal wind instrument to the front of the stage. Using the didgeridoo in original ways, a new style of music is created - a blend of world music, jazz and rhythms inspired from the world of electronic music. The didgeridoo's deep, primal sound resonates within the atmosphere created by the music. The melodies and the interaction between the bass, keyboards and drums transport the listener to new and exciting places. Shai Vardi (bassist and band leader), Noa Zulu (didgeridoo), Shay Maoz (keyboards) and Roy Oliel (drums) met in the Rimon School of Music and began working on the band's original material in August 2008. Since then they have performed in the Israel International Didgeridoo Festival and in several clubs, to critical and popular acclaim. The band organized an internet-based band-name competition, followed by an internet poll to select a name out of the hundreds of submissions. Amazingly, the name selected was the only name suggested by the band members themselves. "Dreaming Elephants" was inspired by the book "Blue 2."
