Product notities

DITHYRAMBS (Free To Be Filthy) CD It's the first release from the new German label Beautiful Scum Records, and it's a damn good label debut. This Italian band was founded in 1989, and this is actually their first offical album, although they gained a lot of good criticism in the early 90's for their first demo and their promo CD in 2001. So much the better that Beautiful Scum Records discovered the potential of DITHYRAMBS, because what this power trio delivers here is truly impressive. Pretty frequently their virtuosic execution reminds me to the bodacious Unorthodox, because they treat different musical styles in almost the same elegant vein. 70's Hardrock, Thrash Metal, Psychedelic and Progressive Rock merge seamlessly together and nevertheless the complex outcome is still catchy and powerful. You realize their delight in playing very soon and the more I listen to 'Free To Be Filthy' the more I love it. The production is dry as a bone and fits good to their sound, and especially guitarist Andreas Pacini emerges very often as a master craftsman of the six strings. Drummer Francesco Biagianti and bassist Daniele Mencarelli accumulate to a tight rhythm-section, so that the guitar can let off steam whenever it's needful. Of course, here's also a lot of emotion in each of the eight cuts and so I can't find any fault. This album is a varied affair and I hope, that DITHYRAMBS receive the adherence they deserve. Highly recommendable! (KK)(Cosmiclava.com) Metal Perspective Review Dithyrambs - 'Free to Be Filthy'[Beautiful Scum Records, 2007] Tracklist: 01. What Rubbish 02. Abu Mash'ar Washington-Bagdad 03. So Bad Fate 04. Only A Filthy Truffle Can Save Us From The Sprut 05. Free To Be Filthy 06. Arale's Dream 07. X08. 2013 Pediatras You gotta give credit to these Italian lads, the Dithyrambs. Their musical vision is an unusual and daring one. This blend of psychedelic rock with fierce thrash metal is not something that you come across very often. Even rarer is the quality of it; Dithyrambs have the musical skills to fulfil their vision offering us a superb record, completely out of seasons and trends.Their story begins back in 1989 and 'Free to Be Filthy' is only their second release. This is quite expected, because their musical style demands time to be delivered in full quality. This is seriously deep and heavy stuff. As adventurous, epic and trippy as LSD.Andrea Pacini may not be the greatest vocalist in the world, but he has a theatrical tone that fully expresses the large scale of sentiments throughout the album. But his guitar work is astonishing, sometimes straight out of cult psychedelic-space rock albums of the 70's, some other times suddenly changing to fully distorted heavy riffs, and then changing again to a complicated, yet superb, guitar solos. But it's the rhythm section that steals the show. Using ever changing rhythms and dynamics, bassist Daniele Mencarelli and drummer Francesco Biagianti are jumping from one style to another with the grace of a ballerina. They go from the double bass drum (the thrash element we were talking about) to funky, then to silence, and then back to full force.Albums of this kind (although none exactly like 'Free to Be Filthy') were made back in the 70s and were largely ignored, only to be rediscovered as cult obscurities many years later. Don't let this record go ashtray. Superb music should be appreciated right here and now, and forever. And this album is superb. (Metal Perspective) Dithyrambs - Free to be Filthy Reviewed by Matthew Tranker (StonerRock.com) Beautiful Scum Records Available now Dithyrambs is an Italian trio whose musicians have been playing together since 1989. This is their only second full-length since 2001, and it was time worth spent. This band is a great example of the classic power trio. In the years since their inception, Dithyrambs has experienced many line-up changes. So many, in fact, it is not even worth going into, but the main members have been the vocalist/guitarist and drummer. With the current musicians set in place (for now), this eight track release can best be described as a cross between '60s and '70s psychedelic rock, with elements of straight up metal, meaning double bass drums and minor chords. The psychedelic sound is much more present than the metal influence; it is the dominating factor to Dithyrambs' music. It was really amazing how seemingly easy it was for these musicians to blend the metal and psychedelic sounds. In comparison to other bands, the only one that came to mind was Flower Travellin' Band. I think it was the lyrical phrasing and tone of the lead vocalist that brought this comparison to mind, because the music was not as similar. With influences ranging from psychedelic and metal, the Dithyrambs, painted a very musical picture. This power trio is very talented and inventive in song structure and riffs, I highly recommend this release. (stonerrock.com)
