Tassels Mai-Tais & Mischief
The Ding Dong Devils debut CD is a must for fans of Tiki exotica, surf, rockabilly, garage, lounge and burlesque bump and grind! This is the latest album produced, recorded and mixed by Dave Klein (Bomboras, Ghastly Ones, Agent Orange), who also guests on organ and percussion, and features cover art by that bongo-beatin' beatnik from Wildsville, Derek Yaniger! This CD, with it's mix of vocals and instrumentals, is sure to be a party favorite for years to come. Over the course of the CD, you may hear such diverse influences as the fuzz-garage-psychobilly of the Cramps and the Sonics, the exotica of Martin Denny, the steel guitar-driven Hawaiiana of Sol Hoopii, the crazy hi-fi arrangements of Vic Mizzy and Esquivel, the go-go-billy of 60's Elvis Presley, the tremolo guitar of the Ventures and the Shadows, the echo-laden space sounds of Joe Meek, the party time vibe of the B-52s, even vaudevillian traces of Cliff Edwards and Slim Gaillard. The lyrics of the vocal numbers often take a quirky and tongue-in-cheek look at the Tiki Polynesian craze of the 1950's and 1960's, including it's often decimated restaurants ("False Idols Put a Curse on You") and some of it's famous drinks ("Mai Tais in the Moonlight," "Sufferin' Bastard").
