Venice Sessions 1
Style: CONTEMPORARY SOLO PIANO Deanna's debut CD, Venice Sessions 1, is a collection of original solo piano improvisations. It is a raw and honest album put together through the encouragement of friends and fans. Many pieces were recorded in the middle of the night on different pianos, with different recording equipment. Yet, there is intention behind every composition. 'Old Vienna Way' was created and recorded immediately after watching a documentary about the Holocaust, and is also called 'Requiem for Lack of Human Intervention.' The meditation of Fall is reflected in the song '28 Leaves of Milwood. ' Much of Venice Sessions reflects the natural world. Choreographer, Keith Johnson, used the longest composition of this album, 'Windward,' to create a dance entitled Presence of Absence. This was first presented at Cal State Long Beach with Deanna "learning" her own 15 minute improvisation to play live on stage. In 2009, Keith Johnson's company, Keith Johnson/Dancers, won the Lester Horton Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance - Small ensemble, for the performance of Presence of Absence. A new album is in the works and will be out by Spring of 2013.
