Alive in Tin Pan Alley!
TIN PAN ALLEY! These three words conjure up a bygone pinnacle of unprecedented artistic achievement in American popular songwriting which lasted from the 1880's until the advent of Rock and Roll in the 1950's. But some may not realize that TIN PAN ALLEY was actually a real place - located in the heart of New York City on 28th St. Between 5th and 6th Aves. On these two blocks all the great (and would-be great) popular composers had their offices. Legend has it that newspaper reporter Monroe Rosenfeld was walking through the fabled block one day. Upon hearing the cacophony of songsters within their little factories feverishly trying to churn out their next hits on upright pianos, he proclaimed it sounded like hundreds of people "banging on tin pans". The rest is musical history. TIN PAN ALLEY is also where "Croon Prince" David Giardina calls home. Since even before he could talk, David has been inspired by the vibrant music of this era and on this debut CD he offers up live performances of some of these great American treasures from such venues as The Rainbow Room, The United Nations and others. TIN PAN ALLEY may be gone - but happily the music it created is still ALIVE! "Dave Giardina is a very fine singer indeed. Possessed of a lyrical and vigorous high baritone voice, he can render everything from lusty Italian pop classics such as 'Chitarra Romana' to tender love songs such as 'The Very Thought of You'. He both charms and excites his lucky audiences. " - Steve Ross - Cabaret Entertainer.
