Product notities

Dave Glasser's 5th CD as a leader and first on Here Tiz Music features fresh and adventurous musical interpretations. The jazz quartet brings flexibility and freedom to the music and represents an able vehicle for expression of the love, struggles, and joy life can bring. Glasser's experience roots his creations in the defining elements of jazz, giving it validity and sustenance. The music feels new and exploratory, yet consistent with the 'feeling' of jazz. As life evolves, music evolves, nothing stays the same but all is connected to the past. Evolution. Dig it. Dave Glasser appears on 25 CD's including 5 as a leader, 5 with Clark Terry, 3 with the Count Basie Orchestra, and 2 with Earl May. He is currently active as a performer in the US and abroad. As a sideman Dave Glasser was a member of the Clark Terry quintet from 1995 to 2006. From 1991-95 he was lead altoist with the Illinois Jacquet big band and from 1988-91 he was with the Count Basie Orchestra under direction of Frank Foster. Over the past two decades he has also worked alongside Barry Harris, "Sweets" Edison, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Roland Hanna, Sam Rivers, Eddie Locke, Joe Williams, Nancy Wilson, Stanley Turrentine, Jon Faddis, Buddy DeFranco, Benny Green, George Benson, Monty Alexander, John Bunch, and many others. What others have said: As was clear to me the first time I heard Dave, he had, early on, the most essential quality of a superior jazz musician - his own story to tell, and as his life evolves, so does his music. ~ Nat Hentoff A Few Words From Frank Foster... Dave Glasser is an alto saxophonist who has deserved to be widely heard and widely appreciated for well over a decade. He possesses the quality of being both a musician's musician and a people's musician. Talk about full, beautiful tone, control of the instrument, "harmonic relevancy," and technique, Dave has 'em all in abundance. In stating a melody, Dave treats it with love and respect, his sound truly expressing what the song is about. When he improvises, "Glass" knows how and when to keep it simple. You'll find absolutely no wasted motion; but when it's time to "throw down" with some flurries and snakes that'll astound you he can do that, too. There also you'll detect no misplaced notes. He has warmth, passion, funkiness and knowledge. I've stood in front of Dave Glasser as a leader, and sat in front of him as a member of the audience. He's never disappointed me. Listen up, everyone, and take my word for it, "Glass" will not break. And a few From Phil Woods .... Dave Glasser is a great alto player. I hear the tradition, Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges, Charles Parker as delightfully lyrical but also loaded with good sensible chops. I also hear a soupcon of Lee Konitz and Davey Schildkraut - not a normal recipe but when you have chops, it all comes out Dave Glasser.
