Wrenches & Rags
A fellow musician notes, 'Darlene writes songs about things that matter. Furthermore, she has wonderful melodic and lyrical sensibilities. Every verse build to reveal a tender story that I can relate to. Her songs will take you all over the map, but always bring you home to the heart'. In her debut CD, Darlene reveals an uncanny ability to write mindful tales about the awe in every day life. Listen as she transforms an old piece of furniture into an iconic treasure, send an impassioned message to the unborn child of a friend, faces her personal fates through the mirror of her sister's life, and offers acclamation and homage to some of the people she reveres most. Darlene began crafting songs as a form of self expression in her early teens. The real world took over for several decades, where the typical things in a busy life provided many distractions from her musical tendencies. Like the comfort of an old friend, she eventually rediscovered the inherent gratification and contentment realized in composing music as a means to unpack her troubles, sort out her feelings, and celebrate the people in her world. The Boston area folk scene and the artistic ambience of coastal Maine provided the perfect backdrop for her re-initiation, where she began performing at coffee houses and open mics throughout the region. 'Wrenches & Rags' is a compilation of twelve self authored works that are at once personal and yet universal in nature.
