Making a 12 string guitar sound loud takes no effort whatsoever. Bringing out the nuances and tapping into the broad range of harmonics and overtones is where the work begins. In a style that crosses many boundaries, the 12 string work on this album conjures something of a 'blues-grass with a touch of poetry.' Sometimes lyrical, other times raucous, the range of the instrument is deeply demonstrated. In contrast to the 12, one challenge with a 6 string is to express and savor the clarity and delicateness of each tone. Where the 12 lends weight, the 6 asks for space and volume, and the 6 string pieces openly call on your emotions. We live in a culture of words, so an instrumental album easily becomes lost in the background. While this album is great to listen to while doing other things, it will continually draw the listener's attention back into the melodies and artistry; and if listened to while doing nothing, it opens wonderful windows of thoughts and emotions. The instruments used on this album are: a well worn cedar topped Taylor 355 12 string and a fresh Engelmann spruce topped Goodall Concert Jumbo cut-away. Tunings include: DADGBE, DADGCD, CADGCE.
