Live at the Theatre
"Here's a show you wouldn't expect to happen outside one of the big established venues in town, but jazz reedman and concert presenter Daniel Bennett ain't scared of nothin! A couple of months back, he brought us Bill Frisell; now he's got the Charlie Hunter Trio, and again it's at the Cambridge YMCA Theatre, and again it's a double bill with the provocative folk-jazz of the Daniel Bennett Group." Jon Garelick (Boston Phoenix) This was the seventh appearance by the Daniel Bennett Group at the Cambridge YMCA Theatre. Daniel Bennett founded Bennett Alliance Records in 2004. The Bennett Alliance Music Fest (held in Rochester, New York) would become Daniel's flagship event, running for four consecutive summers. Daniel's guiding philosophy was simple: Share concerts with new artists and you will reach new audiences. In December of 2006, the Bennett Alliance Concert Series kicked off at the restored Cambridge YMCA Theatre in Central Square. For the next three years, the concert series would feature the Daniel Bennett Group sharing the stage with artists like Bill Frisell, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood), David Fiuczynski, Jerry Bergonzi, Denison Witmer, and Joy Electric (to name a few!). In July of 2007, eight-string guitarist Charlie Hunter performed at the Bennett Alliance Music Fest in Rochester. Connections were made and Daniel invited Hunter's group to perform a double bill in Boston at the Bennett Alliance Concert Series. The show sold out in less than one month. The concert would bring together two distinctly original bands on one stage for one night. The rest is history...
