Product notities

Demian Richardson: trumpet Matthew Putman: piano David Moss: bass Federico Ughi: drums Daniel Carter: tenor sax, flute, clarinet, trumpet Recorded in Brooklyn, New York 1. Entangled - This is a quantum state where particles, which are not physically connected, affect each other. Certainly I felt a similar feeling when playing, and even more so when hearing what we recorded. One rhythm or note affected others at a speed faster than we could think. 2. Mirror Neurons - Empathy is a trait that has been difficult to define scientifically. Now, with brain imaging however, an interesting thing has been shown to occur. Neurons of one person can fire at the same time, as neurons in the exact location of another. I think the symbolism, and possibly the reality, of how this applies to our playing is apparent. 3. Singularity - In this case I am referring to the moment at the beginning of the Universe, before the big bang. All of the energy (and therefore matter) that is now in our universe was bundled tightly into a point the size of a single atom. It was the densest, and hottest point in our universe, and was the moment when the greatest energy was about to be released. I feel this same anticipation and tension in some of our music. The moment before the Big Bang of sound. 4. Fractal - This is a mathematical and geometrical term that you are probably familiar with. It is a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts. The music is complex in form, but can be reduced to components of sound. 5. Out of the Ether- I like this because for centuries science thought that the ether was a physical medium, like water, that light traveled through. Einstein proved that it did not exist. Now it is used as a warning to physicists with ideas that they are unwilling to see beyond. The risk of putting out new music with musicians who don't usually play together, and creating something original, is indeed coming out of the ether. 6. Planck - The word Planck sounds like a common word everyone knows, but it is also the name of an early 20th century physicist. He discovered quantum mechanics by accident really. Our music was a happy accident as well. 7. Trichromacy - Humans blend three colors for sight. This is rather rare for animals. It is used for various survival reasons. I consider the blend that we created in this recording as unique and a part of our personal and artistic survival. Liner notes by Matthew Putman.
