Peace and Greetings to You All, This year D.R.U.M. will marking it's 19th birthday as a World Music/Reggae ensemble. It's hard to believe that we've not only been here, but that we've able to count on your support and love for almost 20 years! We've played the 'A to Z' of the local Houston music scene, having played everywhere in Houston from the AstroArena to the Zoo. Over time, we've increased the range of our show, having since played in Japan, Belize, Estonia, Finland, and across the U.S. None of this would have ever been possible without your support. We started as a African Percussion Ensemble in 1988,founded by member Baba Ifalade aka Alafia Gaidi. He realized that there was no African drumming scene in Houston, unlike many other cities of it's size, and began to train drummers and make drums. In 1990, that group, now known as D.R.U.M., added lead and rhythm guitar, keyboards, bass, tenor saxophone, and kept 3 percussionists on board, playing their first big show at Salsa on the Plaza in downtown Houston. Because of a repetoire that was heavily laden with Reggae and African Traditional drum suites, we quickly became known as a 'WorldBeat' band, a term coined by late Austin DJ, Dan Del Santo. Those were wonderful times, as D.R.U.M. opened the ears of people that had not heard of Reggae,of never heard it played live. We also played in places that had never had Reggae/World Music acts before. With a heart filled with good memories and thanks, we gratefdully announce the arrival of our newest offering to your ears. It is our latest CD, 'LOVETERNALIGHTRUTHEALINGROWTHAPPINESS'. This CD features some of the old material that you may know and some new styles that may not have known that we are capable of playing. We did this CD entirely in our own facility, Drumusic Studios, and it shows! This CD features conscious lyrics, good hooks, and some individually great musicians playing hearts-to-the-wall!
