By Al Bumm Liner COOLDADDY used to call his band 'Deja Vu' but he changed it 'cause he heard somebody thought they were a lounge-lizard band. Since he couldn't think of any other names, he named it after himself - and that was cool! At first, he was doing lots of oldies shows and he was pretty good at it. But one day, kinda by accident, he was doin' this swing stuff and people started yelling and singing along. So, he kept doing it - just for the esthetic value you understand. Besides, the gigs payed better and, if nothin' else man, this dude is smart. Cooldaddy gigs mostly in Southern California but he's done a few Vegas runs and even hit New York. 'Course those were special gigs where they had some big dough. He likes to travel, though, so don't be surprised if he shows up in your burg sometime.' JIMMY VELOUR is Cooldaddy's lead vocalist. He's from Syracuse, NY and he's always talking about 'The Bills' - some kind of hockey team or something. Jim has been around the longest and is Cooldaddy's personal hotdog and beer advisor. He used to sing at Holiday Inns all over the East Coast and has toured with Bo Diddley, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge and Black Sabbath. Jimmy writes some of Cooldaddy's coolest songs. He also comes up with lots of good paying gigs so Cooldaddy really likes him. MARGE KELL is Cooldaddy's personal feature vocalist. I think that means she don't have to stand on stage the whole show. But look out when she starts belting 'em 'cause she's got one heck of a voice. Been singing since she was 15 and she can almost break a wineglass. She used to sing in Nevada casinos and she's toured all over California. Also, she knows the words to about every song ever written. Marge is from Montreal but she don't sound like it. She lives with her husband, Larry, and Chu-Chu and Haus. Hope those aren't the names of her kids. Her favorite food is lobster so I hope Cooldaddy keeps getting good paying gigs. TOXEY FRENCH plays keyboards and tenor sax and sometimes Cooldaddy makes him sing. He is Cooldaddy's personal arranger and producer (which means he works for free a lot.) When the band is recording I heard they have to feed him under the door and make him bathe. Toxey used to be a studio musician and record producer and has played with The Monkees, Rick Nelson, The Beach Boys, Linda Rhonstadt and The Fifth Dimension. He's produced lots of acts including Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids and the sound track for the film 'Midnight Cowboy.' He's even got a gold record hangin' on the studio wall. You'd think workin' with all those important folks would make a guy kind of stuck up but, Cooldaddy likes him. MARK HADERLIE: One day when Cooldaddy was gigging this guy Mark walked in and started jamming on guitar. I've never seen Cooldaddy's mouth hang open like that. Turns out this guy has been playing forever. He don't just play swing; he plays country, blues, rock and roll and all that other stuff. 'Course he sounds best when he's groovin' on some changes. (This is kinda embarrasing to say, but he also plays violin and actually went to college - imagine that!) Mark's played with nearly every band from Jackson, Wyoming to California. He even owned a recording studio in Salt Lake City where he recorded lots of big acts - including the Osmond Brothers - Oooooooh! Cooldaddy thinks Mark is very cool.
