Graeme & Colleen/ Colleen & Graeme at St. Paul'
You will love this CD. It is filled with some beautiful old hymns which come to life in the hands of flutist Colleen Muriel. It is also a CD filled with new solo works for piano written by Colleen Muriel performed by pianist Graeme Thewlis. The CD is a live performance given on November 20, 2009 at St. Paul's Church in Covent Garden, London. This church is known as the Actors Church and is located in the famous Market Square of Covent Garden. The hymns create a mood of peace, contemplation and joy and are especially beautiful given the fantastic accoustics of this fabulous historical church. The piano music is delicately and elegantly performed by Graeme Thewlis, a graduate of the Royal College of Music, and covers a variety of styles. The two fugues are written in the style of baroque fugues which appear around the time of Bach, Rainfall and Vancouver Rain are very descriptive pieces, which are almost impressionist in nature. They describe in the music what a rainy day both sounds and feels like. This piece reflects back to Colleen's childhood in Vancouver, Canada, where she has many happy memories of playing piano indoors for hours while watching the rain and wind outside blow through the trees and splatter against the windows. Sit back enjoy....especially on a rainy day!!!........or while sitting under a palm tree thinking about life.
