Collage: Of Carols
New holiday album from Portland's Collage Music! Physical CD's will be available by December 9. From the Symphony, Opera, Ballet, the vibrant jazz scene, independent artists, and touring musicians, to the wedding and event professionals, Portland is a diverse and rich musical community. The musicians of Collage can be found on numerous CDs by Portland artists, from Portland Cello Project, The Stolen Sweets, Vagabond Opera, to Pink Martini and M Ward. Collage Music ensembles have performed for hundreds of weddings and events over the last seven years and each year around the holidays receive many requests for holiday music performances at homes, businesses, and public spaces. A hallmark of Collage's professionalism, is the ability to field groups adept at a wide variety of musical styles, from classical and jazz to popular music styles. In fact, the name Collage, was chosen to reflect the use of different media in the making of art. In choosing to record the album, "Collage: Of Carols", the artists have found a way to reflect a wide variety of styles, from classical, folk, Latin, jazz, bluegrass, new age, even Eastern Europeanesque arrangements, and to tie them together through the medium of classic traditional Carols. The other consistency throughout the album is the musicianship of Collage founder Susan Langenes (flute, saxophone), David Langenes (guitars, six string banjo), Skip vonKuske (cello, mandolin, production) doing with the carols what they've done with countless arrangements of music for their clients over the years: making them come alive through the instruments they play. The fantastic percussion skills of Don Henson and project engineer Rob Stroup of 8 Ball Studios are put to great use enhancing the beautiful arrangements.
