Spirit of Love
Cliff Perry and Laurel Bliss are recognized vertrans in the bluegrass and old-time music community of the Pacific Northwest, respected by their peers and beloved by their fans. Together they formed the heart and soul of Southfork, a legendary Northwest bluegrass band, who performed for almost two decades in Washington, and up and down the West Coast. They began singing as a duet in the late 1980's, making the recording 'Old Pal' in 1993. This recording was awarded 'Best Old-Time Recording' in 1994 by County Sales of Floyd, Virginia. Spirit of Love is a new collection of old time songs, with their beautiful guitar and dobro support. The repertoire draws from The Carter Family, The Delmore Brothers, The Louvin Brothers, The Bailey Brothers, James and Martha Carson and others. Molly Tenenbaum describes the music: If there ever was a definition for the work 'twine,' Cliff and Laurel embody it, their voices simultaneously two separate and one together. Carter Family, Delmore Brothers, parlor songs, and hymns, every song in their repertoire is a beautiful gem and their music is rich with emotion - not sentiment, but a deep, pure pull toward the essential. Their music remembers that time before country, bluegrass, and old-time split apart-and brings us to the present, re-grounded, refreshed, and reminded of our own full natures.
