Award-Winning Composer, Claudia Howard Queen is a multi-instrumentalist and composer for dance, theatre, and film. Ms. Queen has accompanied for over 150 dance instructors in New York & Chicago studios. She has been a dance musician for the American Dance Festival and the Tisch Summer Festival of Dance. Ms. Queen uses piano, percussion, voice, electronic, stringed, blown, and world music instruments to create sophisticated, uplifting, kinesthetic music. As musician for dance, Ms. Queen composes and performs music specifically designed to illuminate the visual poetry and enhance the creative voice of the choreographer and dancer. Ms. Queen has created over 26 scores for choreography. Her dance scores have toured the U.S., Ireland, England, and Uruguay. As a composer for theatre, Ms. Queen was Composer-in-Residence for Chicago's Music Theatre Workshop for twenty years. She has composed the scores for 16 contemporary musical theatre works. Ms. Queen's many awards include Grand Prize from the American Musical Theatre Festival, three National Endowment for the Arts New American Works Awards, Artist Fellowships from Illinois and Ohio, three Meet the Composer/Arts Midwest Awards, a Pilgrim Project Award, and a Fulbright Senior Specialist Award to teach and play in Taiwan. She received her BA from Oberlin College, and her MFA from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. Ms. Queen's mission is to provide evocative original music as an instrument to touch, to move, to uplift, to heal, and to inspire. She endeavors to create music that resonates in the physical body, enlivening the senses, and energizing the listener.
