Dreams Into Daylight
Christian Floyd is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from a tiny town in the small state of Delaware. He started out his music career as a heavy metal guitarist and played in various bands in the Delaware area, writing songs and recording original material. But a few years ago, Christian Floyd experienced an ironic twist of fate. His approach to music polarized, shifting in extremes, as if from a scream to a whisper. The percussive and insistent drive of metal gave way to the soft musings of an acoustic guitar and the gentle rasp of his own voice. Now Christian Floyd's music is equally as intense, but that intensity lies in the quieter moments and the space between notes. The power comes not from amplification and anger but from simple chords and honest lyrics. His focus lies in creating intimate moments shared between him and his audience. And yet if you listen closely you can hear his rock n' roll roots shine through. This is especially true on his debut solo album, 'Dreams Into Daylight,' in which Christian Floyd deftly walks the line between upbeat acoustic pop and gentle folk to form a genre of it's own -- one which he likes to call 'late night listening.' On his debut album, Christian Floyd inlisted the help of talented drummer Brendon Cooper on three songs -- 'Maybe I ...,' 'Brand New Day' and 'The Story of Rainbows' and the vocal talents of Krissi Harrison on songs, such as 'Brand New Day,' 'Movin' On,' and 'Almost Home,' just to name a few. Aside from these exceptions, however, Christian Floyd is responsible for all instruments on 'Dreams Into Daylight' -- acoustic and electric guitar, drums, drum programming, percussion, bass guitar, keyboards, and of course lead and backing vocals! 'Dreams Into Daylight' is comprised of 13 all-original songs, ranging from quiet acoustic folk songs, such as 'Home for Sleepless Nights' and 'Tomorrow's Song' to upbeat rockers, 'Maybe I ...,' 'You & Me Tonight' and his best known and most frequently requested song, 'The Story of Rainbows.' Lyrically, Christian Floyd's songs could quite simply be described as conversations -- either with someone he loves or about someone he loves. 'Maybe I ...' tells the story of his uncertainty with regard to releasing this long-awaited CD as well as the various uncertainties in life that plague us all. 'Conditional' mourns the loss of friendship and the lack of unconditional love. 'Tomorrow's Song' reports on a rare moment of pure optimism. 'The Proverbial Loon' spins the yarn of someone going crazy because of unrequited love. And 'The Story of Rainbows' shares some poignant snapshots of his mother's life and his memories of her, she having passed away in 2002. So if you enjoy heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics and a sweet sounding acoustic guitar -- and a few other surprises thrown in along the way for good measure -- pick up Christian Floyd's 'Dreams Into Daylight' and get lost in the world of late night listening.
