Product notities

Chris is a Philadelphia based drummer, pianist and songwriter. His musical journey has taken him from performing with the progressive rock trio ALSO BROKEN in the mid-90's, to writing for independent film and theater in Los Angeles, CA, and now to releasing the self produced RADIOLAND. Chris' musical training started in elementary school and by high school he was gigging and recording with local bands around Philadelphia. After high school he attended The University of the Arts as music major where his affinity for classical/orchestral music developed. After graduating from UARTS in 1994 Chris formed the progressive rock band ALSO BROKEN with 2 other Philadelphia based musicians, Sal Zaffino and Tom Mauro. The band went on to record the album DIVISION OF GRACE. Through exceptional reviews and extensive local radio airplay the album went to #2 on Tower Records' (Northeast Philadelphia) best sellers list the week of it's release. "ALSO BROKEN was a great experience and a project that really took my musicality to another level. Fusing influences like Rush, Yes, and The Beatles, it really helped to develop my songwriting, singing and drumming abilities. It also opened my eyes to the workings of the recording studio." In 1997 the band disbanded and Chris relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his love of composition. Within his first year he wrote the score to the independent film A MOMENT ON DOROTHY DANDRIDGE. In 2001 he was commissioned to score the directorial & writing debut of accomplished film editor Tony Bacigalupi (The Ring, The Mexican, Scream 3, Forces of Nature). Throughout the next 5 years he'd gone on to score 11 more independent films, and wrote the music for the stage production of A GIFT FROM HEAVEN starring acclaimed character actresses Beth Grant & Tara Buck and directed by Jim Holmes. In 2000 he began an apprenticeship with Oscar nominated trumpeter, and T.V./Film composer Mark Isham. In 2001 he began to work for the Emmy wining composer/orchestrator/arranger William Ross where he continued to hone his writing craft under Mr. Ross' tutelage. "Working with Bill has brought every aspect of my musicianship to the next level. I gained extremely valuable lessons in orchestral writing and orchestration by observing him work on his many projects including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Tuck Everlasting, Ladder 49, and many others". Chris relocated back to Philadelphia in 2006 in order to pursue a Masters Degree in Music Education, which he earned, from The University of the Arts in May 2008. The following fall he began teaching for the School District of Philadelphia as a general/vocal music teacher (grades K-8) at the Andrew Jackson School in South Philadelphia. In January 2010 Chris began production on his first solo album, "RADIOLAND" to be released in early 2011. Radioland is the culmination of 5-6 years of writing and recording demos. In late 2009 I thought it was time to try and get some of my songs recorded as best I could in order to simply share them with family and friends. It was recorded with a very small budget and recorded and performed (for the most part) by myself. There are a ton of imperfections, but obsessing about such things would have only persuaded me to give up the project altogether. I first settled on 11 songs and recorded basic tracks throughout the winter. All of the tracks, minus the drums were recorded at home, which were recorded at a local studio in August. The vocals as well as other instrumentation were recorded in the fall and the guitars in January. Certainly not ideal, but when working alone you're left with few options. I tried approaching the album so that it would have a sense of cohesiveness, which was difficult because the writing dates from 2004-2011. So I altered many lyrics to make them more relevant today. I wanted the album to be piano based so I opted to try and stay away from a lot of studio bells and whistles. A song like "When You Were Here" doesn't fit the mold but I left it in anyway. I am tempted to write some notes on each of the songs and their meaning, but I find that most songs that appeal to me the most are interpretive and can have many meanings. I hope some listeners find something in it that strikes a nerve. I'm grateful that I found this passion in my life that has only escalated over the years and I hope some of that is present in these songs.
