In 2004, while living in Los Angeles, Chi-Hui employed some of the world's finest studio musicians to record four compositions in a style that both honored her Chinese heritage and the western musical sensibilities she had acquired. After a long period of experimentation, she created a fresh and contemporary Chinese sound. She called it "Chinese Fusion". She titled this labour of love Vita Eterna, to express her wish that the music might find eternal life. The album went on to win a Just Plain Folks Award in America, and more importantly, Chi-Hui heard from a lot of people who enjoyed this album. Many young people, who were not previously interested in traditional Chinese music, found that her album had sparked an interest to explore this traditional style more deeply. Chi-Hui began to dream about exploring Chinese Fusion more fully, record a full album and perhaps even to form a band and perform her pieces live. It took years of hard work, but the spring of 2008, Chi Hui and her husband went about making that dream a reality with renewed energy and focus. The album Beyond Boundaries is the realization of this dream and hopefully only one small step into a musical future full of wondrous possibilities. Enjoy!
