Yoga Nidra (Deep Relaxation)
Welcome to the Practice of Yoga Nidra. In this tranquil Yoga Nidra session Yoga Therapist Cheryl Wood will guide you through the simple steps to achieve deep relaxation, mental refreshment, and physical rejuvenation in less than a half hour. Unlike many other recorded Yoga Nidra programs, the sound of Cheryl's voice is all that you will hear during your session. No music or other background sounds are present. Though music and/or nature sounds are popular and even appropriate in many guided yoga practices, Cheryl feels that the practice of Yoga Nidra in particular, the process of achieving a deep, almost dreamlike state of relaxation, bordering between sleep and wakefulness, is best achieved and most effective without music or nature sounds present. This way a person can explore their own inner process/ experience without any distractions. Thus, in this session, you will hear nothing but the soothing sound of Cheryl's unassuming vocal style and hypnotic presentation. Nidra means "sleep". The process is deeply nourishing as it provides mental, physical, and emotional relaxation. It can be very beneficial to those who are sick or weak as it rejuvenates the nervous system and brings healing to the body. For those without any health concerns, yoga nidra can be deeply restorative, inviting a sense of peace and tranquility. Cheryl Wood is a certified yoga therapist who was privileged to receive her initial yoga teacher training under Gayna Uransky, a certified Iyengar instructor. She subsequently earned her 500 hour RYT certificate with an emphasis in yoga therapy from the Ananda Seva Mission in Santa Rosa, CA.
