This is Lang's third CD, and this one sounds great. The tunes are catchy, like on the other two, the spirit is there, like on the others, but productiion-wise that is where the similarities end. John Hegner, who produced it builds powerful soundscapes to illustrate the stories Lang weaves. Hegner renders Lang's voice strong using a minimal of technical effects, blends the piano perfectly, and punctuates this one with strong guitar backing, as opposed to forcing the synth and keyboard to dominate like on previous Lang efforts. Overall there is a lack of distortions and artificial enhancements of Lang's voice and the instruments used on the record. The result is that the songs, the vocals, and the lyrics are left turned up in the spotlight. Listen to any song, and it makes you want to hear the rest, nothing here is unfinished and one walks away feeling they've heard songs about real life, but this time it was an adventure in sonic reinforcement of Lang's stories in song.
