Room Is Empty
'Charlie Beresford, painter, vocalist, and acoustic guitar master, uses all of his talents here to create a fourteen song set of seemingly small tunes of loss and growing, edgy anger, that upon repeated listens sound epic in their own way. This cinematic richness is due in no small factor to the help he gets from Tim Harries on bass and Mark Emerson on violin and accordion. They help center Beresford's guitar in a jagged and moody space. So while tunes like 'The Tide That Pushed Away' and 'If Only' sound fragile and restrained initially, they blossom into something dark and beautiful. 'I Let You Walk With Me' manages to sound comforting and sinister at once, a sure sign of genius. Beresford's playing is restrained but biting on that chain to be let loose. Like contemporary murder ballads, though with hints of saving grace, this record comes from a room that is far from empty.' musicemissions.com 'Small emotional pieces with big effect......a real pearl' Terrorverlag Germany 'Unique......It's unplugged beauty at it's best.' funprox.com 'a beautiful, enchanting one-of-a-kind work of art' DPRP Holland 'Extraordinary, magical, at times terrifying......and quite, quite brilliant.' June Tabor ' thank heavens there's music like this which puts your head back where it should be....Truly beautiful' BBC Late Junction Radio 3 Charlie Beresford, vocals, acoustic guitar Charlie Beresford is a painter turned composer from the UK. Originally from Coventry, the city that brought the world 'The Specials'. He is now based on the border between England and Wales, a place man has tried to tame for centuries, but it still manages to remain wild. Charlie's music is a dark down tempo animal: more beauty than beast. Voice, acoustic guitar, strings and reeds all intertwine each other in defiance of being given a genre title. European underground site Funprox described it as blending 'elements of folk and haunting, contemplative pop into a brooding sonic mixture.' Whilst Christopher Dane Frick said Charlie's music 'paints a slow, bleak, yet somehow beautiful sonic picture, using coarse brushes and organic earthy tones.' He set up the label brightfield in 2001 to release initially his own material. Over the last 4 years Charlie has recorded 3 albums, 'Smiles and Fists', '505', and the latest 'The Room is Empty'. Working with artists such as June Tabor (Charlie recorded and mixed June's award winning album 'An Echo of Hooves' and the critically acclaimed 'At the Wood's Heart') his career has seen him work in most genres of music from classical to heavy metal and jazz to folk both as a recording engineer/producer and musician.
