SF Latin Jazz
Charlie Barreda SF Latin Jazz. The music on this CD, reflects the influence that the San Francisco Bay Area has had on the musicians that live here. San Francisco has always had an ear for Latin music and the fusion with Jazz and Rock brought things into perspective for those musicians looking for an outlet to express their art and talent. From the early days of Latin Jazz with the late Cal Tjader on Vibraphone and the different rhythms sections featured on his albums and CD releases, dating back to the 60's. And later on, the fusion of Rock and Latin music by the Santana band revolutionizing the way we listen to Latin music today, not only in San Francisco but all over the world. Charlie Barreda is a product of that music environment. Growing up in Lima Peru and as a pre-teen playing drums with the most popular Rock bands of the late 60's and 70's he was aware of the style of music played by Santana. Moving to SF to study classical percussion, he fell in love with the sound of the Vibraphone and that led to his interest in Latin Jazz. To be more specific, the Latin Jazz that was being played by the Vibraphonist Cal Tjader. Up to this day many of the songs recorded by him are played by the local musicians who are interested in this Afro Cuban Latin jazz.
