Gods Bless Taiwan
Band Profile The Chairman, formed in 1997, has released 7 albums, and received numerous domestic and overseas awards. The Chairman is famed for it's particular Taiwanese local rock and roll style and has dominated the Taiwan music industry for years. Now The Chairman is bringing you it's eighth studio album coming in 2010, not only with it's inherited style but also with it's brand new element, Taiwanese traditional culture, including temple fairs, local religion music, and Taiwanese local opera instruments, again to show it's ability to mix the tradition and the newness. ----- Album Concept In Taiwan, a temple is the center of people's belief as compared to the church in western world. In addition, a temple can reveal the art forms in one region because the temple are usually built and decorated by well-trained artisans. On certain days such as the birthday of gods, people will hold some spiritual activities or rituals. For example, "Chu Shiun" is a typical activity, which, people believe, performs a function of destroying bad spirits. The prevalence of religious activities will also promote one region's drama and miscellaneous performances. Apart from the function of entertainment and art, religious activities also perform a function of uniting and educating people. The Chairman thinks these traditional activities are valuable to Taiwan people so it samples in it's album a few of Taiwanese local opera music, which can best represent Taiwanese traditional culture.
