Central Boise Library
The music on this CD was primarily recorded between 2001 and 2004 by a band called Central Boise Library which is no longer together. The songwriting and production efforts behind the project live on, however, as Central City Music Company. 'First of all, you can always tell the real genius bands out there, because the name bespeaks a careless blandness. Central City!! That's where the Flash lived. Add that to 'Music Company' and the spell is cast. Swell product you put out. Really swell. I await the new CDs.' - vonHummer Central Boise Library by Central City Music Company should be listened to as an anthology. It is a distillation of three separate CD(R)s released on a small scale in Boise. 'It was iconic. It was honest, it was substantial, it was both simple and complex simultaneously. It was stuff I think about all the time but never get around to saying. It was my life in song, but it was someone else's life. It was both ephimeral and trancendent. It was new but it was familiar. I wanted to make a whole movie just so I could put the album in the soundtrack. It was both paragon and paradigm of... poetry? no... something different. Maybe it was the reference to square dancing in gym class that got to me. It made me want to be a musician again.' - Ramsey Dewey Central City Music Company Presents Central Boise Library features the instrumental work of Daen Ashantiva, Lorie Broumand, Sam Counsil, and Aaron Nuttall. 'There's some nifty, loopy work on Central City Music Company's CENTRAL BOISE LIBRARY. Folks into somewhat-silly but still musically competent work might be into it. But 21 songs is a bit too much of a good thing, like eating a pound of candy corn.' - Rod Lott Guest musicians include Jeremy Jensen of the Very Most on cello, Adam Broom on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Ejric Bernhardt of the Mosquitones on sax. '...they seem like nice enough people...they describe their music as "quirky slightly wacky pop-rock with short songs and an occasional pinch of psych or jam", and that quote pretty much sums up Central City Music Company's sound without much argument...this music is lo-fi and scrappy...and the band sound like music fans...' - James Clarke In addition to songs written by Sam Counsil and Lorie Broumand, lyrics were contributed by Alex Neiwirth, Brad Cook, and Lar Svenson. 'Any music fan looking for catchy indie-pop/rock with a wacky flavor and a home-grown feel will love this CD and should check back for the release of new Central City Music Company recordings.' - Sam Counsil.
