Product notities

The Celthix is a group of musicians that draws it's energy from the roots of American Folk music. From it's origin in the British Isles and the mountains of Appalachia to the contemporary Folk music of the 20th century, The Celthix' music pays tribute to those who have gone before them. The songs that the group plays span hundreds of years and tell the story of the people who live in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and their ancestors from Scotland and Ireland. From it's beginning, the band has gotten a very warm reception playing to audiences accustomed to bluegrass music. As Celtic music is one of the direct 'ancestors' of bluegrass, folks who have never heard it seem to understand The Celthix' blend of Scots/Irish and Mountain music almost 'instinctively." The band's goal is to help others experience the stories these songs tell and have fun in the process! In their first year together, The Celthix experienced a 'dream come true' when they played two shows with legends of Scottish Folk music, The Tannahill Weavers. Along with The Chieftains and The Battlefield Band, The Tannahill Weavers are largely responsible for introducing Celtic music to an International audience and for it's ever-increasing popularity worldwide. To be able to share the stage with musicians of this caliber and importance was an honor The Celthix will never forget. Recently, the band was able to share the stage with legendary German Guitarist Klaus Weiland for two shows which culminated in a jam with Klaus and the guys playing together on each others' originals. The shows got rave reviews and a tour is planned for Fall 2009 in the Mid Atlantic region. The CeltHix are: SCOTT EUTSLER (Whistles, Digital Horn, Percussion, Vocals) Scott has the most eclectic background of the group, with influences ranging from traditional Celtic to Turkish folk and Native American music. Scott can be heard on various recordings from the Celtic band, Father, Son and Friends. Scott and his wife Kay have been world-travelers and own a business called Touch the Earth, which sells musical instruments and handicrafts from around the globe. Scott's musical influences are many, and include The Tannahill Weavers, Stan Rogers, Fairport Convention, John Prine, and Andy M. Stewart. Scott is also a traveling musician with the theater group, Once upon a Blue Ridge. Scott and his family reside outside Stuart, Virginia, on a beautiful 130-acre farm called Spirithaven. CHRIS OWENS (Guitar, Vocals) Chris is the youngest member of the band and has only been playing music for about six years. Chris started out playing guitar in an underground rock band he co-founded called, Only on Sunday. Chris discovered Celtic music in high school and fell in love with the sound and content of the music. He and Scott met a short time after, and began a friendship that produced impromptu jam sessions at Scotts farm. Chris' influences are vast and include guitar greats Tony Rice and David Rawlings, as well as singer-songwriters Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Sharing vocal duties with Scott, Chris has also discovered the joys of bluegrass and mountain music. Chris and his family live in Stuart, Virginia. RANDY CANDELARIA (Fiddle, Banjo, Recorder, Guitar, Bodhran, Blues Harp & Bagpipes) Randy resides in Pinnacle, NC and has played Celtic music for over 25 years. His primary instrument is the fiddle but he has been seen playing the banjo, mandolin, recorder, guitar, bodhran, blues harp and bagpipes. His involvement with bands have been various and include 'Ravenscar,' a Celtic band; 'Yesterday's Wanted,' a southern rock band voted 3rd place for 'Most Popular Country Western Band in North Carolina'; the 'Stafford Brothers,' a local bluegrass band; and was a long time member of 'Naomi's Fancy,' a Celtic band that he performed with for nine years. His current ventures includes not only working with the CeltHix but also the Winston-Salem based trio, 'Green Folk.' His influences (or perhaps, even more correctly, his inspirations) have been Seane Keane of the Chieftains, Kevin Burke of the Bothy Band, Peter Knight of Steeleye Span, and the legendary blues fiddler Papa John Creach. In addition to appearing with various bands he has sat in on recording sessions with local and national artists, has appeared on the Discovery Channel, and provided the soundtrack to the trailer of the PBS movie, 'The Birth Mark.' TIM JEFFERSON (Upright Bass) Tim, the back bone of the Celthix, also has a long list of achievements in the 'roots music' circle. Tim is not your typical bass player and provides the unique rhythm and beat The Celthix ride on. He has played with bluegrass greats such as Wyatt Rice, Ronnie Bowman, Johnny Joyce, and many others. He and Tommy Morse have also played in many local bluegrass bands such as 'The Bluegrass Buddies' and 'Marcie Horne and Next Step. Tim is that hard-to-find commodity in music; a bass player who loves variety and can play his instrument in any style. Jefferson can still be seen at many Bluegrass shows with various artists in the ever-fertile Southwest Virginia music scene. Tim and his family reside in Westfield, North Carolina. TOMMY MORSE - MOSS (Banjo) One listen to Tommy Morse on the banjo will tell you he is no typical banjo picker. Tommy is cut from the same cloth as banjo greats Bela Fleck and Earl Scruggs. The banjo's range is unlimited in Tommy's hands. Tommy started playing at a young age and has shared the stage with too many players to mention. A short list includes Jeannette Williams, Wyatt Rice, Sammy Shelor, Kenny Smith, Ronnie Bowman, and many, many others. Tommy and life-long friend Tim Jefferson have played on stages all over the US and Europe. Tommy has played banjo on numerous recordings and for many popular artists. He writes beautiful melodies and ballads, and penned a song recorded by The Lonesome River Band. Moss, as he is called by his friends, is a highly sought-after banjo player and can be heard playing with several bands in Southwestern Virginia. The Celthix is honored to be one of the groups with whom Tommy shares his talents. The Morse family lives in Dry Pond, Virginia. Our Influences...Vast. The Tannahill Weavers, Battlefield Band, Tony Rice, Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, John Hartford, John Prine, Bluegrass, Celtic, Folk.
