Make You Feel My Love
"Cara Matthew has the potential to become Canada's next international jazz star.' - Doug Gallant, CM "On her album Cara Matthew packs a powerful presence." - The Daily Courier Nominated for a 2008 Ontario Independent Music Award and recently on Entertainment Tonight Canada, fresh, new jazz and blues vocalist Cara Matthew releases her debut album: Make You Feel My Love. Her record features tunes by Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan and other popular artists arranged in a jazzy and bluesy fashion all her own. Juno-award-winning Greg Kavanagh produced the project and brilliant players from trumpeter Guido Basso to bassist George Koller share their talents. The results of this creation are original, pure melodies to be enjoyed by all musical enthusiasts. While she was growing up in British Columbia and being classically trained, Cara fell in love with jazz and blues. Two years ago, after visiting Toronto and singing at a few of the city's jazz clubs, Cara decided she would pursue a career in music. She immediately packed up her life in Vancouver and moved across Canada. After settling in the big city and making it her new home, Cara met Greg Kavanagh in Toronto and started recording her album with him at Kavasound studio. Cara has performed at Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, Michigan, which is the "longest running jazz club anywhere in the world." In Toronto, she has gigged at venues such as N'awlins, Centro Restaurant & Lounge, Alleycatz, Ultra Supper Club and, on a regular basis, the Black Dog Pub. Pianist Dave Restivo (Marc Jordan), keyboardist Robi Botos (Molly Johnson), drummer Marc Pizer (Marc Jordan) and bassist George Koller (Holly Cole) are a few of the amazing musicians Cara commonly plays with. In 2008, Cara toured southern British Columbia promoting her debut album and sold out each venue. For her Vancouver release, Cara had the honour of sharing the stage with National Jazz Award winning and Juno nominated bassist Jodi Proznick at The Cellar Jazz Club. Previous performances also include opening for Alfie Zappacosta at Chateau des Charmes winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a Smooth Jazz Concert Series and Cara is looking forward to touring Alberta in April 2009. The title track of Cara's new CD was released in Australia on Foghorn Records in May 2008 and radio stations around the world are playing various tracks from her album including BRTO Radio in the Netherlands, vibes 90.6fm in the United Kingdom and Triple H FM as well as PBS FM 106-7 in Australia. Cara graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in Sociology and English Literature. Skiing, traveling, reading, journaling and playing squash are a few of her hobbies. Cara also has passion for animals and nature, continually giving her the inspiration to sing whole heartedly.
