To the Outside World
With my second release, 'To The Outside World', I decided to focus on completing and recording various piano compositions I had been working on. As I was involved with other activities as well as a full time studio position, it took two years to finish the album. Composing instrumental music is both interesting and challenging because one must tell a story without words. A beautiful thing about that is that the story can be whatever the listener takes away from the music; which is different for everyone. The various interpretations are endless. I'm not going to list the people or events, both real and fictional, that were the inspiration for every piece of music on the album. In my view, that would takeaway a certain amount of the mystery and magic that instrumental music can provide. I will mention one song here specifically though... 'Paws To Wander' was the third song I completed for the album. I wrote it for my wonderful Seeing Eye dog. He was with me through the entire process; usually sleeping near my desk or by the piano while I was working. My great little companion deserved a song, so, I gave him one. These are special to me and I hope that over time, some of these compositions will become special for you as well; that they remind you of certain people, experiences, and places. I hope you enjoy the album and that my music will take you on a fantastic journey. Thank you for reading. Cameron Strife Massachusetts, March 2011.
