Fight the Good Fight
For nearly two decades, the worship team of Covenant Christian Church in Benton Harbor has been playing at churches around Southwest Michigan. 'Every time we played out in the community, people would come up and say 'You guys should make an album,'' recalls Larry Follett, the worship leader. Over the years, a core group within the worship team started to create more and more original songs. This group formed a band along with talent from other churches in the area and named themselves, The Called. 'We all have the understanding that we are called to worship. That's where the name came from,' explains Follett. With the assistance of Terry Green, Chief Engineer at The Radio Stations of Southwest Michigan, the long process began. Nearly a year of recording and mixing went into the CD. The Called is pleased to announce the release of it's debut CD, Fight The Good Fight. This is an eclectic selection of originals. You'll find some upbeat contemporary tunes like God of Heaven and Fight the Good Fight as well as some jazzy blues numbers such as Praise to the Father, We Can Stand, and Where Would I Be. They are interspersed with some deep worshipful songs like His Name is Emmanuel, I Give You All, and The Great I Am. There are thirteen songs in all, concluding with Steve Janssen's powerful a cappella version of The Lord's Prayer. The Called is comprised of Steve Janssen on lead vocals, Larry Follett on keyboards, Al Giganti on bass, lead, and rhythm guitar, Glen Head on drums, guitars, and vocals, Jan Smith and Julie Fitchuk on vocals. For several tunes, the band showcases it's brass section, which includes Daniel Dahlke on trumpet, Kristen Barker on trombone and Andy Kolosowsky on saxophone. 'Our hope is that people will listen to the songs over and over and be encouraged to become bold in their walk with God,' states Follett. 'The feedback we've gotten already has been excellent.'
