Broken in to Christmas
Maria Graft (lead vocals), Kristen Berryhill (lead vocals), Paul Bell (guitar), Dave Daugerdas (guitar/bass), Jeremy Currens (bass), Jeff Poindexter (piano/keys), Orlando Cano (percussion/drums) and Mike Petrie (drums/percussion) are BROKEN IN!! We are local musicians (Lake Barrington, Palatine, Cary, Algonquin, Hoffman Estates) with a band that has a very unique Christmas CD to be released, as well as very unique purpose. The album is called: Broken In...to Christmas Our band got together when I got the notion that it would be super cool to play 'gigs' at prisons and bring a little holiday cheer to inmates. (Prisoners get pretty depressed around the holidays.) After some networking we were able to get some 'in's' at some correctional facilities in the Racine/Union, Wisconsin area. It is actually fairly difficult to get 'in' to these prisons... We play at the Southern Oaks Girl's School, which is basically a correctional facility for young girls ages 12-18 in which the inmates get to go to school at the same time. We also play at the Robert Ellsworth Women's Correctional Facility (which is for women 18 and over) and happens to be right next door to Southern Oaks. Another facility play at is called RYOCF, Racine Youthful Offenders Correctional Facility, and is for young men 18-23. We usually play 1-2 concerts at each facility each year. It has been quite fulfilling to play at these facilities, and the inmates truly love it. (The inmates find our name, which has many different layers of meaning, to be very humorous.) Since we started this by doing Christmas prison gigs about 4 years ago, we had a lot of Christmas material and, this year, we felt compelled to cut a Christmas album. The music on the CD is extremely rockin' and unpredictable. It is Christmas tunes reinvented.
