Standing on the Rock
Two and a half years of hard work have finally paid off! Welcome to Brian Whaley's new CD entitled 'Standing on the Rock'. It is well worth the wait! Starting off with the powerful 'That is Who We Are', we get the essence of the album's message...'yes that is who we are, and that is what we do, and this what we say when we sing our song to you, we're children of the Lord, reaching for a star, believing that the Kingdom is never very far, yes that is who we are!' It is quickly followed by the upbeat 'Children of the Light' featuring stellar performances from guest vocalists Randy Picolli and Greg Dohmeier. 'Living Promise' is next, calling us to service in the Lord. It's simple arrangement of two acoustic guitars and one harmony make it easy for the singer/guitarist to perform in worship settings. 'Come Then, Oh Children' introduces us to the adults and kids singing together on this track. It is a great opening song, especially for a communion service. 'Echo Psalm' allows the listener to relax and meditate to Psalm 103. We get to hear the beautiful voice of guest soloist Gregg Bell on this track. 'Give us These Eyes' takes it's theme from Isaiah; '...the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light...' It is a great congregational song for Advent. Jesus Christ the indestructible? You betcha! '...a world made beautiful, impossible dreams made possible, a faith unshakeable...' These are some of the powerful phrases from Brian's song entitled 'Undeniable Love' that will have you tapping your foot and singing along. 'In the Quiet' answers the question: 'Where do we find God?' The answer: not in the thunder, not in the storm, not in the rocks falling down, but in the silence of our hearts. Here we are treated to the beautiful soprano voice of Mary Anne Czapla, and the powerful baritone of Christopher Conroy. Boom- Boom-Chicawa? What does that mean? Say it and you'll find out! It's just fun to say. And it's the title of this bouncy, catchy song that Brian sings with the kids on the CD. You'll enjoy Brian's fiddle work, as well as Tony Correlli's work on the snare and upright bass. 'Standing on the Rock' is the title track of the CD. And it earns it's stripes as such. 'We are standing on the Rock, and the Rock is Jesus Christ, and we are building up the Kingdom of God.' Why not save the 'going out' song for the last track of the album? And so we did. 'Go Out' is the perfect recessional song for your service. It is upbeat and hopeful. And it exhorts us to '...go out and sing to the world the glorious life that is ours in Christ'. Thanks for visiting and Happy Listening!
