Product notities

Artist Brian Vassallo (Composer). Title MEMOIRS OF A LIFETIME Label Brian Vassallo MUSIC // ASCAP UPC Barcode.-No. (884502946529) CD Manufuctured by Diskmakers Album Design by - Ivan Sciberras Mastering by - Manolito Galea Author © Chuck van Zyl / STAR'S END 8 June 2012 The CD Memoirs of a Lifetime (42'53') seems to have been built on Brian Vassallo's respectable 2003 release Beyond. Upon a strong foundation his new sonic structures feel bigger, brighter and more complex. As Memoirs of a Lifetime spins through it's eight tight and polished compositions we hear Vassallo heading past classic works by synth heroes Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis, and ever closer to a unique symphonic prog-space. The first few tracks are spacey and pleasurable as climactic chords and a fluttering arpeggio of notes swirl in a breezy whirlwind of synthetic sound. The mood continues to escalate as ever shifting sequencer patterns run through a series of imaginative progressions. Dropping in and out then jumping from one key to they keep the pace careening as the listener follows the reeling transfers. From here on out Memoirs of a Lifetime gains momentum as big bouncy electronic rhythms expand and recede beneath dramatically arranged synthesizer orchestrations and atmospheric textures. Heroic guitar inspired keyboard solos next to elegant chamber ensemble simulations timed with a well placed drum kit mix may give listeners from the mainstream an access point - just as the more cerebral among us will become absorbed by the fascinating modulations, engaging arrangements and masterful programming of sounds. Music and memories are among the few things that have the ability to evoke some of life's most powerful emotions. Memoirs of a Lifetime is Brian Vassallo's search for such powerful things - things that we cannot physically touch, yet may touch us so deeply. Author © 'Bert Strolenberg' - SonicImmersion CD, Release, 2010 December 31, 2010 saw the release of "Memoirs of a Lifetime" by Maltese composer, sound designer and producer Brian Vassallo. It offers the listener a sonic companion to make his/her own interpretations of his/her moments in life. Mr Vassallo's instrumental music, presented in eight uninterrupted parts, is graced with a warm, full sound, stirring up lots of emotions with it's bright, spacious cinematic sound and farscapes. His detailed atmospheric sound design is interconnected with rhythmic/sequenced sections, and even reveals some very nice vintage undercurrents that lend his sophisticated compositions extra body, depth and meaning. The nice bouncing sequencer outing of "Part 4" even ventures in symphonic realms, opening up to things of grandness. Next to the more spherical other parts, the slightly Jarre-like "Part 6" again hits the up-tempo button very nicely with it's tight "Equinoxe"-esque sequencing and melodic set-up. This one is followed by more spatial and catchy sequencing and and spherical sound painting in the following two last parts of the CD. There's even an unlisted nineth bonus track in which Brian oncemore displays is mature musicianship. It all makes "Memoirs of a Lifetime" a highly recommended CD, which also stands out due to an immaculate mastering and production. Chapeau, Mr Vassallo! Author © Malta Music Critic 'Toni Sant' I've had the pleasure of playing the music of Brian Vassallo on previous editions of the MMI podcast. So I was delighted when he sent me a copy of his new CD album. Beautifully produced in a jewel case with a multi-page full-colour booklet, the CD is quite unusual for the Maltese music scene, particularly because all but the introductory track on it bear the name of the album itself split into 8 parts. Fans of Jean Michele Jarre and his ilk will undoubtedly relish every minute of this CD. I highly recommend it.
