Same Great Love Song
Love comes in all shapes and flavors, but it's the same. Love born of sight alone leads to a pledge of successful courtship (The Star of the County Down), shy longing or bold calling from the shadow (My Lagan Love; Doe-Skin Blanket), and hopeful wooing beneath a beloved's window (Serenade). The young assure their youthful companions of future devotion (She Moved Thro' the Fair) and fidelity through sickness and old age (Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms), or simply gush from the heart with sweet words of praise (Where e'er you walk). Love's pleasure assented to bears the deepest joy and satisfaction (The World is Mine Tonight), celebratory longing to reunitie once more (Hear My Song; Neopolitan Love Song) and forever (The Same Great Love Song). Love's pleasure denied bears desperation and bitterness (Kathleen Mavourneen; The Bitterness of Love). The loving recall departed lovers with breaking hearts (She is Far from the Land), their youthful companions with wistful sadness or rekindling delight (Oft in the Stilly Night; The Kerry Dance), and the land of their birth with burning devotion (Ireland, Mother Ireland). Parents whisper sweet nothings to their babies (Mighty 'Lak a Rose), mark their passage to sleep with song and prayer (That's an Irish Lullaby; ACradle Song), invoke the fairies to teach them virtues of love (A Fairy Story by the Fire), and go to desperate lengths to feed them (Fields of Athenry). Above all else, they champion love as their mark when the young leave the nest (Danny Boy). ===== The Same Great Love Song - music & lyrics by Brian Hunter I can see in you, my dear, All I need from life.
