'Back Story' is unlike any album ever made... my life story set to music and recorded 'real time'... Yes, many great artists have created incredible, intimate, autobiographical albums, but never before has any artist invited the listener into the exact moments when his/her life is actually unfolding, real-time... My album does. 'Back Story' begins with TRACK 1, a home recording from when I was a little boy back home in Alaska, thinking I was all grown up, but no idea what lay ahead... TRACK 2 'all too real' is a harrowing song reminiscent of Bob Dylan's recording of 'All Along The Watchtower' detailing the terrifying events that led to my decision to run away from home shortly following my 15th birthday... I recorded it in a $1 private shower stall at an all-night truck stop somewhere in British Columbia while in the actual process of running away, hitchhiking from Alaska to San Francisco... TRACKS 3 & 4 were recorded while I was a teen runaway 'singing for my supper' on the streets of Haight-Ashbury and living in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park with my best friend Danny, a 14-year old runaway from San Diego who I met in the park a week after I hitchhiked there from Alaska... Danny was a skateboarding prodigy who was forced to 'take short rides with strangers' in order to survive... For 2 years we were practically inseparable - TRACK 3 'Worlds Apart' tells the story of some of the stuff I saw while living on the streets... I began recording TRACK 4 'A Short Ride with a Stranger = Food' while Danny actually was on one of those short rides, but Danny got back before I had a chance to finish it... by coincidence, the following song 'Some kids don't live 'Happy Ever After'' (which was recorded just days after Danny took off forever) was recorded right after that song on the very same cassette tape... I share Danny's & my story in my blog series 'Teen Runaway Flashbacks' on my two MySpace websites... TRACK 5 'These Streets Alone' is featured on the web site of 1-800-RUNAWAY (the link is provided at the bottom of my 'links')... but it's a song that EVERYONE EVERYWHERE should be able to relate to... [A BIG PART OF ALL THE PROCEEDS from ALL MY MUSIC SALES will be DONATED to this and other CHARITIES HELPING PROVIDE for TEEN RUNAWAYS] TRACKS 6 & 7 were recorded by the ocean and by a campfire in Big Sur... The simple beauty of nature which is vanishing before our very eyes, as seen through the eyes of a lifelong hitchhiker... TRACK 8 'Baby Close Those Big Brown Eyes' is a love song (so SUE ME! Everyone has the right to write a love song every once in a while)... this is one of the favorites of my female fans... TRACK 9 is the album's lead-off single 'I Shall Return'... it's the song where I think all my skills as a budding recording artist finally came together. TRACK 10, the album's closing track is one of the saddest recordings ever made, a gut-wrenching confession that closes the album about how I lost my very best friend in the whole world, why Danny had to take off, and what a true hero he was... This album is unforgettable... engaging, inspiring, insightful, uplifting, and if you 'let it in'... it will reveal itself to you slowly You will never be the same.
