Long White Train
In Josh Turner's 'Long Black Train' you don't want to get aboard, because the devil is driving it and the destination is nowhere. Now picture this: A long white train, trimmed in solid gold and Jesus is driving it and it's destination is Heaven. Now you would love to get aboard that train now wouldn't you? I want to thank my brother in Christ, Mr Lin Flowers for the inspiration of 'Long White Train'. I hope all will enjoy it. We have had a lot of people tell us they like it better than Josh's song !! Another brother in Christ, Mr Barry Austin, shared a poem he wrote about his grandpa. I liked it so much I put some music to it and recorded 'Grandpa Was A Preacher Man.' We've had several tell us that song reminded them of someone in their family that did the same to them as Barry's grandpa did to him. Joanne Sartin from Salem VA had a song that she was having difficulity writing an ending for. She asked for my help and together we came up with 'When I Get to Heaven'. I've written two Easter Songs, 'He's Alive, Halleujah' and 'Battered and Torn'. 'Battered and Torn' made it to number 37 out of 400 new Christian songs in the month of Aug 2008. Maybe you have heard it. If not I trust you will like it. Jesus went through a lot for us all !! Another Christian singer lady I know wrote a song, and in that song was lyrics referring to the nails. I thought a song about remembering the nails when we get distraught about our problems would be uplifting and maybe would help ease someone's pain. When everything else fails.... 'Remember the Nails' My wife and I was on a trip through the mountians of Virgina and West Virginia. We were noticing the names of roads in this particular area we were driving through. One of the roads was named 'Jordan Land Road' . My wife and I agreed how pretty that name was, and before we got to our distination, we had written most of 'To the Land of Jordan'. Now 'I Take Jesus With Me' has a special orgin. There is a lady that lives in Mount Airy NC. She is in her mid to late 80's when this happened. Even though she has health problem, money problems, etc. She is a delight to be around. One day a member of her chuch asked her what her secret was. How can you be so happy all the time. She looked and him and said, 'it is simple, I take Jesus with me everywhere I go'. The gentleman was so moved by what she said and the way she lives her life, he went home and wrote this song. I'm so glad Tony Williams shared it with me, I hope you will like my version. It has been a top requested song on 'WYTI' radio in Rocky Mount VA. I hope you like it too. My cousin Linda McKinney of Ferrum VA, came home from chuch one day with these words written on a piece of paper: stand still and let me show you my glory. It was part of the pastors sermon that morning. She was moved by those words and handed it to me and said what do you think. About 2 weeks later I recorded 'Stand Sill'. It was one of my first recordings ever. Thanks Linda ! Everyone knows: 'Will the Circle Be Unbroken'. I used a Dulcimer handmade by James Webb of Callaway VA, A 1940's 'Blue Comet' resonator mandolin given to me by Clyde Turner of Elamsville VA, and an electic bass to produce this instrumental. The Dulcimer is solid walnut. Join in and sing along !! Mr Hershel Justice of Panther WV was close to his death bed. He had black lung. As most coal miners know. It a tough life working as a coal miner and he wrote some of his feelings in a poem. His surving wife Sue showed me the poem he wrote in about 1982 and I put a melody to it and recorded 'I've fouind Peace at Last'. The extraordinary fiddle player is Jerry Wood from Salem VA. The lovely harmony voices is Steve Shively and Sandy Via from Rocky Mount VA. Steve and Sandy helped me in several of my songs. I couldn't do it without them. Thanks Guys !! 'A Different Road' is a song about me. Thinking back one day about the life style I used to live and the one I live now, lead me to write this song. Several told me they could relate to this song, cause it happened to them also. Maybe something like this has happen to you too. I hope you like it. 'Grandma's Star' came from another poem written by the late Hershel Justice from Panther WV. In the song it talks about the forks in the road by the creek. I was fornatute to visit that spot in Panther WV about 2 years after recording the song. Makes me wonder if Hershel was looking down and leading me that way. God does work in mysterious ways !! 'The Way He Holds My Hand' is an instrumental I wrote and to this day have never put lyrics to it. If some of you out there want to try writing lyrics to this song, feel free to do so. It's is one of my favorites, I listen to it alot. Anna Holman of Chicago is on the fiddle and Emily Tucker of Ferrum is playing the piano. When I listen to this song I makes me think of lazy days laying on my back under a shady tree looking up at clouds and marveling at God's creation. Amen !! Even though I put the words 'I wrote' in my descriptions, I know I didn't write anything. 'Without God I am nothing'! I just wrote down what he gave me with the gifts he gave me to write words and play instruments. I would put 'sing' in my gifts, but as you have probably heard by now on the sample music, I'm not much as a singer. But hopefully some great gospel singer or group will grab hold of one of these songs and record it. So I'll give all the praise to Jesus my Savioiur and God my king, knowing that no matter what happens here on earth, I will have eternal life because I'm saved by His grace. Thanks to all that helped make this CD and Glory be to God the Father, The Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen Amen !!!
