God Speaks Thru These Hands
Robert Strother (A.K.A. Bob Conga) is the consummate drummer, writer, producer, arranger and vocalist who calls Yeadon, PA his home. At a very young age he began to hear the rhythm patterns of life. Both of his parents were entertainers: His father a tap dancer (or 'hoofer' as called back then) and his mother a vocalist with the legendary Count Basie Band. Naturally the same fire to perform courses in Bob's veins. This fire led a burning path throughout his life as a professional performer. He played in various clubs where he was stationed in Topeka, Kansas. While serving his country he performed in numerous competitions till he reached the ultimate contest - Tops in Blues! After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bob wasted no time in continuing to hone his craft. Performing with many local groups throughout Philadelphia eventually afforded him the chance to play with the hottest groups represented by Philly International Records Company. Head liners like Blue Magic, Dexter Wansel, First Choice, The Famingos! Remember? Touring with Grover Washington, Jr. across the US and in Europe proved to be one of the greatest highlights of Bob's career. Top-notched entertainers were his thrill to have met during the tours...Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo, Big Black, Percy James, Candido, Potato and Olatunji, just to name a few. From the very beginning Bob has always known that his path has been guided by the Lord. God has an ultimate purpose for his life and has been preparing him for this special day...for these times...as a warrior in God's army - beating the drum (Wake up!) and clearing a path for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ! Blurb: 'Bob Conga has a very special gift. As a vocalist and percussionist, he has mastered two of the earliest known instruments to the point of virtuosity. Working with him is nothing but a musical pleasure because he brings a beautiful spirit as well as his considerable expertise to the musical table.
