Born in Fort Smith NWT, Blu was surrounded by music and musicians as a child. When his family moved to southern Ontario their house was the home of many a late nite \'jam session\' with local and touring musicians playing and singing \'till sunrise. These early influences were the stimulus for him to begin songwriting and at the age of fifteen he hit the road. He lived a troubadour\'s lifestyle, travelling across Canada, hitchiking, riding freight trains and performing on the streets of Canada\'s cities and towns from Halifax to Vancouver. While on the road, he met and married the love of his life Kelly, when he was seventeen and she was sixteen and the two have been making music together for over thirty five years. Blu has worked logging, in sawmills, as a farmer, a trucker, a railroader, a heavy equipment operator and a mechanic but has returned to songwriting and performing full time for the past ten years. He has shared the bill with a long list of well known musicians including Jim Byrnes, Veda Hille, Ben Mink, Bill Henderson, Roy Forbes, Allen Dobb, Ken Ham, Todd Butler, Kelly Joe Phelps and more. He and Kelly have played together at many venues throughout B.C. and Alberta including The Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, The Sorrento Bluegrass Festival, The Rocky Mtn. Bluegrass Festival, The Whatshan Lake Festival, The Pemberton Folk Festival, The Kelowna Life and Arts Festival, The Tribal Funk Festival and many others. The couple are also perennial guests of Valdy and Gary Fjellgaard on their tours of the B.C. interior. Blu was awarded the OMA (Okanagan Music Award) as Bluegrass Artist / Group of The Year in 2007 and has been nominated eight time in various categories including, Folk Roots Artist of the Year, Bluegrass Artist of the Year, Male Performer of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year. Kelly & Blu keep busy writing, performing, and collaborating with other performers. They are also recording and producing their own work and projects for other musicians in their basement recording studio (Silvercreek Studios) which threatens to take over their home.
