'Awake' arose out of a year-long struggle with insomnia. The story-based lyrics echo this sleeplessness. Kids drive until dawn trying to escape their lives; jealous lovers toss and turn; and soldiers' lives become waking nightmares. At points, the tension boils over in angry confrontations or screams in search of an answer. Elsewhere, the narrators grow numb, tired, and cold. Written during the depths of the Great Recession, 'Awake' reflects the trauma of it's times. The Blind Sea recorded these tracks over six months at Winterland Studios in Minnesota in 2010 and 2011, with Josh Levi mixing and Todd Fitzgerald mastering. All proceeds received by The Blind Sea for this album are going to support Orbis, a non-profit dedicated to saving sight worldwide.
