In the classical part of the CD the compositions are very well known works by F.SchubeJ.Brahms, L.Delibes etc. A very lovely song by the French composer D.de Severac 'Ma Poupee Cherie' a Laluby has never been performed in the U S, but is well known in France. In the lighter veine songs such as Spanish 'Estrellita,' Italian 'Volare,' American 'If I loved you,' just to name a few, have been popular for many years all over the world. Biruta Grunwald, mezzo-soprano, hails from the Baltics where she began her studies as a child. She went on to win a full scholarship at the conservatory of Klagenfurt and Mozarteum both in Austria. She won critical acclaim in Austria and Germany starring in operettas such as Schubert's 'Blossom Time' and Jone's 'Geisha Girl.' She auditioned for the conductor Ferdinand Leitner and was given a contract to sing in the Hamburg opera. In New York she studied with Lydia Shaliapin, daughter of the world famous bass Feodor Shaliapin. After complition of her studies with Lydia Shaliapin and performing in Carnegie Recital Hall (Weill), she furthered her studies with coaches Leo Lighter, Otto Guth and Charlotte Ross-Zand. Biruta Grunwald made an album entitled 'Biruta Sings in Ten Languages,' a tape 'Biruta Grunwald and Charlotte Ross Zand in Concert,' and a CD 'To You with Love.' This CD is composed of classical, semi- classical and popular music, and has been broadcast on Radio Free Europe, Riga Radio and Radio Liberty. She has performed on the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II and in numerous concert halls and libraries. She is an international recitalist who performs in the U.S. as well as in Europe. Mrs.Grunwald is a past president of the Great Neck Symphony and chairperson of the Visiting Music Project. Biruta Grunwald performs regularly for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and was named to the Patriot Roll of Honor, her name has appeared in the Roll of Honor Book.
