From the Vault
About a year ago, I sat down in my studio with a fresh sheet of paper and guitar to capture some ideas. Almost immediately, something hit me like a ton of bricks.... Why not rerecord some of my father's old tunes? To let these tunes die in the vault would be criminal! When I pitched the concept to Pops, he thought it was a great idea. Obviously Pop's musical journey that began over 50 years ago shaped his writing style and overall approach to music. You just can't play with guys like Bobby Fuller, Charlie Daniels, Jimmy Bryant, James Burton along with other members of Elvis' band, Jerry Garcia (and on and on) and walk away unaffected. He didn't, and this is reflected in his music. With most of the writing out of the way, it was nice to be able to focus on the arrangements and instrumentation. We were eager to arrange some of the tunes a little differently in a way that suits our genre. In the end, several new songs found their way into the project after our good pal John Lisi, one of New Orlean's finest guitarists payed us a visit. Having the advantage of being surrounded by a large group of extremely gifted players, we were fortunate enough to capture their talent. When the tracks were all laid out, one thing was immediately clear... These songs deserve to be heard!
