From the Well of My Inner Child: Songs By Sharon S
'As someone who has worked in the entertainment industry for sixteen years, I have often been approached by friends and acquaintances who wish to get my attention or opinion on their creative work. I've been handed screenplays to read, CDs to listen to, and invites to see bands perform. More often than not, after agreeing, I have found myself in the uncomfortable position of offering an opinion on someone's creative endeavors that I didn't find particularly inspiring. But not this time. When I was asked to attend a live performance by Bette Stuy, my instincts, based on my experiences, almost made me pass on the offer. Luckily, I went to see her show. And as soon as Bette took the stage, I was captivated. The venue immediately came alive, responding to her larger-than-life energy and her positive spirit. Then came her songs, each better than the one before - original, beautiful, catchy, smart, invigorating, and just plain amazing. By the end, myself and the audience were left completely fulfilled yet wanting more. I've seen her perform four times now, and will continue to see her every time I can. The shows are always unique and a guaranteed good time. She is a rare talent, and one with multiple talents - a singer, a songwriter, a band leader, a musician, and an excellent live performer. She can perform covers that outdo the original: - (see her version of 'Natural Woman' on her DVD sampler if you'd like proof). And her own songs are nothing less than brilliant. Rarely does a song you've never heard before leap out at you and grab your attention. Bette's do, and with a vengeance. They not only get your attention but also grab you by the heart and pull you in. Then you hum them for days. As a film editor, I'm constantly searching for new music to place with the films I edit. I often search through hundreds of songs to find something catchy and appropriate for the film. Bette's music stands out in that way - instantly catchy, with a wide audience appeal. With what little free time I have, I've offered my services to help record and edit footage of Bette's live shows. Her music makes me feel like it's something I want to be a part of. I highly recommend you give her a listen, and you'll instantly know what I mean.' Michael Andrews: Editor - Shrek and Shrek 2.
