From their home base at Luna Lounge on NYC's Lower East Side, Benzona cranks out their brand of ballsy, intelligent, hook-laden, 3-minute rock gems. Many of their songs mine the territory of loss and longing, with the occasional take-no-prisoners thrashing of folk rock standards. Main vocalist/songwriter Phil Berman rolled in from the windswept plains of Nebraska with a lean, mean style that invokes Jonathon Richman, Lou Reed, and the Violent Femmes. Guitarist Tommy Dark has been a NYC fixture since the glam-metal heyday of the late 80's and clubs like L'Amour and Danceteria. The rhythm section of Milton Hernandez on drums and Keith Sanzenbach on bass makes the whole thing go with their high energy propulsion and killer harmonies.
